So here it is finally, my very last year abroad post! I have been back for a couple of weeks now, getting used to life back in England.

My last few days in Belgium were pretty cool, and it was very sad to leave. Helping out with oral exams at school was very tiring but very interesting. It was great to be giving exams rather than taking them! Some were a bit stressful if the student was really stressed, but others were actually quite fun. One guy gave me a lesson in the history of America and he was hilarious, had me in hysterics!

I got my tour of the European parliament, there wasn't a lot to see to be honest but it was still cool to see. It is extrememly hard to find though, we walked around for ages trying to find the building, you wouldn't have trouble like that in London. We spent the rest of the day in Brussels going to random places on the metro which was fun! We found a Birmingham street!

My leaving party was a success in the end, it was lots of fun. Not that many people came but my housemate had invited people too so there was a good number. It was a lovely evening weather wise so we sat out all night until it got light again! I got to bed about 6 and had a couple of hours sleep before getting up for church! We played one song with out little band, it went well and I really enjoyed playing. After church I had a final sunday lunch with the pastor and his family, very yummy as always! They bought me presents, so sweet!

The last evening was a bit sad, packing everything up and my room being all bare. And then there was the nightmare journey back! 19 hours travelling in total, that is the last time I take the coach! But still, I made it in the end.

Although I am going back to Belgium for couple of days this week and for a month in the summer, here ends my year abroad blog, as officially my year abroad has ended. It has been a brilliant year, can't belive how quickly it has flown. Going away for a year was always something I knew I had to do but it seemed miles off and I could never imagine actually doing it. So it's crazy that it's now gone. I have learnt an awful lot over the last 9 months, my french has improved lots which means I succeeded I guess, but I've also learnt plenty of other things. I've learnt to be independent and do things on my own, before I went I was terrified about going to a foreign country where I knew no-one, and making a life for myself there, but looking back I think I rose to the challenge pretty well. There have been some hard times but I managed to deal with all the problems. I found somewhere to live, made lots of friends, involved myself in a church, and mostly managed to fill my endless free time. I made an effort to meet local people and actually speak french as much as possible, and now I have lots of contacts and people to go back and visit, which is great! Believe it or not I actually learnt to make decisions this year! Having to deal with problems in a foreign language has given me loads of confidence, suddenly things in english seem really easy now! I've greatly enjoyed the oppurtunity of being able to travel and visit lots of different places over the year, I feel very happy with the amount of new places I've seen. So all in all, it's been a fantastic year!

Ok that's enough reviewing, I shall go back to posting on my other blog now: www.wenamedthemonkeyjaaack.blogspot.com if anyone is interested.
Thanks for reading everyone!

So, less than a week left here! It's weird, hasn't quite sunk in yet. I'm having a pretty boring last week too, but from tomorrow it gets busier. I'm helping with the oral exams at school tomorrow and thursday, then on friday I'm hopefully getting a tour of the european parliament in Brussels! And saturday is my leaving party! I've invited pretty much everyone I've met here this year, so hopefully a few people will turn up. I'm looking forward to it but getting a bit stressed about preparations, I'm not a good organiser!

Then sunday will be my last day at church, hopefully I'll get to play clarinet in the service :)We've just started a music group, had a few rehearsals now and so are hoping to play something this week. I've really enjoyed playing music again, it's a shame that it's just as I'm leaving.

That's all for now, short and sweet again!
ciao

Time for an update I guess...
Only 2 more weeks before I'll be back in England for good! I'm really sad to be leaving, I'm just getting to know people really well and feel really settled here, but at the same time I am looking forward to being back home with everyone. Craving routine and something to do again too, so looking forward to going back to uni.
I finished school last week so it's a bit boring now, not a lot to do! The last day in school was weird, I got no recognition of leaving or it being my last day at all, how rude! I took in scones and jelly for the students to try, so it was kind of special, but only cos I made an effort!
Can't actually think of mych else to say for the moment and I have to be off so I'll leave it at that for now!

Bonjour!
So, my news of late...Only 3 more weeks of school left! Scary!

I had a great easter holiday, spent lots of time gardening! It's my latest hobby, doing lots of weeding at the moment, it's very hard work! Alex was over for the first part then my family came for the second week so I had lots of visitors! Stayed in a holiday house down in south Belgium with my family, it was cool to see another bit of the country. We travelled around lots, went to Disneyland for a day :) and Luxemburg and Cologne and some other places in Belgium. Oh and on easter sunday I got baptised! At my church here, it was great! Giving my testimony in french in front of about 80 people wasn't actually half as scary as I thought it would be! The problems started when I translated it into english and for got lots of words!

My house is all different now, just 2 of us living there and it's very empty and strange. Last night my new housemate had a housewarming bbq, but it was a bbq belgian style, basically a big crazy party! It was cool, I met lots of new people and got to practise my french, and the huge random space in the house got to be used for something finally! There was even a dj and a dancefloor!

Can't think of much other news, other than that it's beautiful and sunny and I'm loving the european summer lifestyle!

Ciao for now

So...for all the people who have been complaining about me not updating this for ages, here's a post!
I am currently in Manchester for a couple of days, it's nice to be back!
Life in Belgium is still going very well though, not too much longer to go now. I have started teaching in another school as well which is good cos it gives me more to do and is a bit of variety. The students are so much better at English there! Makes things a lot easer, less repeating and explaining of things. I taught a lesson about english food last week and realised how confsing it is1 There yorkshire pudding which isn't really pudding (and which a lot of belgians think is made from yorkshire terriers cos that's all they associate with yorkshire! I've seen some horrified looks!), christmas pudding which is in fact pudding, toad in the hole which isn't made from toads, mince pies which don't contain meat, shepherd's pie which does contain mince and not shepherds...and so on!
A couple of weeks ago I went to Amsterdam which was really cool, hadn't been there before and I was very impressed. Went to a concert in a very grand concert hall, and ended up being late (a long story, and not my fault!) and then got a free drink cos we were late, amazing!) Met up with freidns in Amsterdam too which was very nice.
In other news, I have a new housemate! All the others are moving out (or have done already) and so far one new girl has moved in, so that's gonna be a bit strange to get used to. She seems very nice though so I'm sure it'll be great!
That's all I can th ink of for now, hope that's good enough!
Tot ziens

Just a quick update cos I don't have much time!
Well I've been back in Belgium about 3 weeks now, settled back in well, being in England at christmas seems ages ago now. Teaching is going really well, I've watched lots of fawlty towers lately in school, I know the gourmet night epsisode off by heart now!

The other day I went to Holland and then walked to Germany, that was fun! There's a big strip of no man's land between the borders, we're thinking of claiming it as a new country.

Gotta be off ot the supermarket now!
More update another time

Two days until I return to England for christmas! :D I am very excited!

Still not feeling very christmasy yet though, maybe it's because I've been really busy trying to get loads of things sorted before I leave.
This week I'm teaching lessons about christmas in England, I took in some mince pies for people to try and got a surprisingly positive reaction! Also played them 'rudolph the red nosed reindeer' and talked about tradional christmas things in England and Belgium. Some of the students told me that they eat chips with their turkey for the christmas meal!! I found that very hard to believe, but very belgian I suppose!

On Sunday my friends and I had an early christmas celebration at my house which was very cool indeed! Big roast, christmas pudding, mince pies, mulled wine...

Can't think of much else to say, haven't done anything that exciting lately, just christmas preparations really, so I shall leave it there for now!

Oh and also I changed my email password and have now totally forgotten it so if anyone is wondering why I'm not replying to emails that is why!!
